So Birdy had been living on my kitchen island for the first week with me (it was up high enough from the dogs to not be bothered by them), it’s an easy area to clean, plus I don’t use it much, except on weekends. 🙂 Also, it gets a ton of light from all over the house… so it was a nice calm but bright space for him.
But I was ready for him to take on his own space. So… during the week, I researched various printer stands, and “bar carts” on wheels on Amazon, that might possibly be high enough to keep him comfortable, but with shelves to store his “life” on, and compact enough to place in a “community area” without taking too much space ALL while being stylish (within reason, of course. It is a colorful environemnt with plastic “happy-colored furniture and toys” bird cage after all). 😉
So I found one. The ones I loved the most were pretty up there in price, and I knew this would be temporary so I didn’t need state of the art, or expensive wood (I will be moving him into an indoor gorgeous aviary eventually), but I found one that LOOKED like the ones I loved, just cheaper wood shelving (nothing that couldn’t handle my light cage and accessories). I ordered baskets for the shelving to store his stuff and still look good. But what I loved best about this shelving unit was that it was a return from the Amazon Warehouse, and they were selling it – repackaged for pretty much half price. MINE!!!!!! I jumped on it so fast, and was DYING to build it. I love building things, it seems. Puzzles are fun. 😉
What I didn’t verify were the details as to why it was so cheap. *hrmph* The “basic” details indicated damaged packaging so repackaged, but further down also included the fact that it was missing instructions and HALF THE HARDWARE to screw the thing together!! GAH!!!
No worries. The “bones” were all there, and I headed off to Walmart first thing Sunday morning (and I mean EARLY!! I was excited!!!) to buy screws and bolts? Nuts? I dunno…
Maryse: Good morning! I’m going to gas my car and to Walmart. 🌻☀️
Eric: Wow you’re on your way early!
Maryse: I have stuff to build!!!! 😀 !!! YAY ME!!!
But I brought what I had (what came with it was fancy and “bronzed” and sleek), and tried to find the equivalent hardware – size-wise, that would do the job. AND. I. DID!!!!!!!!!!! And it was cheap!! Maybe $3 in hardware. I can’t believe how resourceful I am!! LOL!
Maryse: Okay I’m done at Walmart. Got my stuff PLUS I bought Birdy a new perch that’s a branch and forks out. He loves it!!! And a toy. 😂😏
Eric: He looks much more red!!!
Maryse: I know!! I put that red factor food mixed in with his food. No red water. He doesn’t like it. But the food he does.
Maryse: AND!! His stand is almost as tall as me!! So that’s perfect for me working on it and him feeling safe up higher than dogs.
P.S. I put it together with the help of studying the product photos on Amazon, PLUS running through a ton of the product reviews warning others of stuff to do, and to avoid, when building it (some people were building it backwards, EVEN with the instructions). Apparently the instructions weren’t that great, even if you did get them. LOL!
So all that to say, I saved good money, but still had to put forth a bit more of an effort to get this done. But all in all? It was worth it!!!
